Aims and Scope

Journal of Experimental and Theoretical Physics (JETP) is one of the oldest and most highly recognized Soviet and Russian scientific journals in physics.

JETP publishes articles that significantly contribute to the scientific branch of physics and are of great concern to a wide physics audience. Being launched by the USSR Academy of Sciences in 1931, JETP replaced the physical section of the Journal of the Russian Physical-Chemical Society. These days the Journal's founders are both the Russian Academy of Sciences and P.L. Kapitza Institute for Physical Problems of the Russian Academy of Sciences. The Journal's Editorial Board was headed by academicians A.F. Ioffe and L.I. Mandelstam (1931-1939), S.I. Vavilov (1939-1951), N.N. Andreev (1951-1955), P.L. Kapitsa (1955-1984), and A.S. Borovik-Romanov (1984-1997).

Journal of Experimental and Theoretical Physics emphasizes fundamental theoretical and experimental research in all fields of physics, from solids and liquids to elementary particles and astrophysics. Coverage includes:

- atoms, molecules, optics;
- nuclei, particles, fields, gravitation, and astrophysics;
- solids and liquids; order, disorder, and phase transition in condensed system;
- electronic properties of solids;
- statistical, nonlinear, and soft matter physics.

Journal of Experimental and Theoretical Physics is founded by the Russian Academy of Sciences and the Kapitza Institute for Physical Problems, Russian Academy of Sciences published under management of the Physical Sciences Branch, Russian Academy of Sciences printed by the publishing company «Nauka», the Russian Academy of Sciences (ISSN 0044-4510)

It is published monthly, i.e. 2 volumes a year, each including 6 issues.

Reviewing

All submissions to the Editorial Office of the Journal “Journal of Experimental and Theoretical Physics” undergo a mandatory double-blind peer review (the reviewer does not know the author of the manuscript; and the author does not know the reviewer).

Reviewing of articles is conducted both by members of the editorial board and by invited reviewers – leading experts in the relevant fields. The decision on selection of a reviewer is made by the Editor-in-Chief, Deputy Editor-in-Chief or Managing Editor. In case of a conflict of interest, the reviewer has the right to decline to review the article.

The review period is 2 to 4 weeks, but it can be extended on the reviewer’s request. Upon completion of the review, the reviewer provides one of the following recommendations:
- the article is recommended for publication as is
- the article is recommended for publication after revision addressing the reviewer’s comments
- the article requires major revision and re-reviewing
- the article cannot be published in the journal
If the review contains recommendations for corrections and revisions, the Editorial Office sends the review text to the author, inviting them either to take the comments into account when preparing a revised version of the article or to provide reasoned arguments against them (partially or fully). The revised article must be resubmitted for review.

The revision process should not take more than 2 months from the date the author is notified of the required changes. After this period, the author is informed that the manuscript has been withdrawn from consideration. If the author declines to revise the article, they must notify the editorial board in writing.

Articles not recommended for publication are not accepted for reconsideration.

A positive review alone does not guarantee publication. The final decision on publication is made by the Editorial Board. In any conflicts, the Editor-in-Chief makes the ultimate decision.

Once the Editorial Board approves the article for publication, the Editorial Office informs the author and indicates the expected timeframe for publication. Publication of articles in “Journal of Experimental and Theoretical Physics” is free of charge for authors.

Author responsibilities

- to guarantee the originality of the manuscript: it is assumed that the submitted research paper has not been published previously in other editions in its current form or a form close in content; - to respect the principle of exclusivity: a manuscript may be submitted only to one journal at a time;
- not to artificially increase scientometric indexes and friendly citation, not to make irrelevant references;
- to correct and revise the manuscript: make corrections and resubmit the corrected manuscript until it is accepted by the Editorial Board;
- to sign the Publication Agreement and/or ensure signing of the Agreement by any third-party copyright holders;
- to act on behalf of the co-authors in responding to inquiries from other sources after the publication, including questions concerning ethics, repeated use of published materials, accessibility of used data and resources.

It is recommended to acknowledge the contribution of anyone who participated in the research or writing of the article, while not meeting the criteria of authorship (with his/her permission) in the “Acknowledgments” section.

Citations

• References must be relevant and properly cited.
• Excessive self-citation or citation manipulation is unethical.
• Editors may adjust reviewer-suggested citations to maintain anonymity.

Corrections and Retraction

If a correction or retraction is necessary, the Editorial Board will follow the recommendations of СОРЕ for contestation. If a misprint is found or the author is found to have made an error, the Editorial Board will correct it. Retraction is generally applied to articles with erroneous findings and conclusions or articles that contain substantial plagiarism.
The Editorial Board may remove an article from the online source and publish a notice stating the basis for its withdrawal. The possible reason is a finding that the material is defamatory, violates the privacy or confidentiality laws, is a subject of injunction or may pose a serious health risk to the general public. If the problem relates to correctness or accuracy of the material presented in the article the Editorial Board will consider making necessary corrections.
The resolution of a conflict situation may be achieved through negotiations with concerned parties or sending a query to an appropriate institution for expert examination.

Conflict of interest

The Editorial Board strives to exclude any undue influence on the scholarly papers publication process. The authors, editors and reviewers of publications in the “Journal of Experimental and Theoretical Physics” Journal are obliged to report on any potential conflict of interest. The conflict of interest is a situation that may affect the outcome of the peer review or the decision on publication of research results. The conflict may be of financial, non-financial, professional, contractual or personal nature. The Editorial Board expects anyone who has a reason to believe that there is an implicit conflict of interest in respect of a work published or being under consideration by the “Journal of Experimental and Theoretical Physics” Editorial Office to report it by e-mail to jetp@pran.ru.

Editorial policy

Submission of a manuscript means that the corresponding author confirms the following requirements to be considered:
- the paper contains original results that have not been previously published anywhere;
- the paper has not been and is intended to be simultaneously submitted to other journals until its review in JETP is complete;
- the paper reflects the obtained scientific results;
- the paper does not contain some text and results from other works (including works by the same authors) without appropriate references;
- all co-authors listed contributed to the development of the concept, problem formulation, obtaining or interpreting the results;
- those who made a significant contribution to the work were included as co-authors of the article;
- all co-authors are aware of and agree to the submission of the manuscript to the journal;
- the authors agree with the Journal's system of reviewing and selecting articles for publication.
- the corresponding author (independently chosen as a representative) has the right to represent the entire authoring team of this article.

Plagiarism

The “Journal of Experimental and Theoretical Physics” Editorial Board adheres to the definition of plagiarism as “the use of others’ ideas, research results, texts or other materials without permission of the authors, and respective references”.

Plagiarism involves incorrect borrowing from all types of sources and media, including:
- texts, illustrations, extended mathematical conclusions, etc;
- material downloaded from websites or copied from manuscripts and other media;
- any published and unpublished materials, including lectures and presentations.

The Editorial Board does not support extensive duplication of publications except for the cases when it contributes to academic discussion, with correct source citation.
The Editorial Board expects the readers, reviewers and editors to convey information of any duplication of publication by emailing to jetp@pran.ru.
Any manuscript based on an academic thesis should be written in accordance with the style of the journal, and the material should be revised. When citing the thesis or reusing the figures, authors should avoid self-plagiarism by referring to any excerpts from the thesis in a proper manner.
